In the Business Motivation Model (BMM), an Objective is a statement about a state or condition of the enterprise to be brought about. A key characteristic of an Objective is that it must be specific and measurable (as in SMART goals). The measures, commonly known as Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), are used to quantify the Objective and track its achievement. Therefore, the Objective element is the BMM construct that defines these performance measures.

B. Assessments - An Assessment is a judgment made using measures, but it does not define the measures themselves.

C. Critical Success Factors - CSFs are key areas of performance, not the specific, quantifiable measures used to track performance. They are not a formal BMM element.

D. Key Performance Indicators - While KPIs are the measures, "Key Performance Indicator" is not a formal element within the BMM metamodel itself. The measure is defined as a property of an Objective.
