In Workday’s Business Process Framework, a Review step is designed for a designated reviewer to “open, edit, and submit” the transaction that was started by the initiator. The reviewer receives the task, can change any editable fields on the object, and then submits, which both finalizes the edits and records an approval. Approval-only and Consolidated Approval steps merely request an accept/deny response and do not expose the transaction in editable mode; Integration steps launch integrations and contain no user action. Therefore, the only step type that simultaneously permits editing and approving is the Review step.

B. Consolidated Approval step – Combines multiple approval tasks; approvers can only approve/deny, not edit the transaction.

C. Approval step – Grants approve/deny/send-back actions but does not allow direct editing of the submitted data.

D. Integration step – Executes an integration or web service; no user interface for reviewing or editing data.
