The uncompressed bitrate of a digital video stream is calculated by multiplying the number of pixels per frame by the color depth (bits per pixel) and the frame rate (frames per second).

For a 1080p signal, the resolution is 1920 horizontal pixels by 1080 vertical pixels.

Pixels per frame: 1920 × 1080 = 2,073,600

Bits per frame: 2,073,600 pixels × 24 bits/pixel = 49,766,400 bits

Bits per second (bps): 49,766,400 bits/frame × 60 frames/s = 2,985,984,000 bps

Megabits per second (Mbit/s): 2,985,984,000 bps / 1,000,000 = 2985.984 Mbit/s

Rounding to the nearest integer gives 2986 Mbit/s.
