The Security Management Server (SMS) is the central repository for all Check Point security configurations. It stores the security policies, object databases, user databases, network configurations, and management settings. Every change made by an administrator via SmartConsole is saved to the SMS database. Because this database is constantly updated with policy changes, object modifications, and administrative actions, it changes most frequently and is the most critical component to back up regularly to prevent data loss and ensure disaster recovery capability.

A. SmartManager is not a standard component name; the correct term is Security Management Server.

B. SmartConsole is a client application used to manage the SMS. It does not store the primary configuration database itself.

C. The Security Gateway only stores a compiled version of the policy pushed from the SMS. Its local configuration changes infrequently.
