The Dell PowerStore sizing tool uses different default Data Reduction Ratio (DRR) values for block and file workloads to provide a more realistic initial capacity estimate. Block-based workloads, such as virtual machines and databases, typically exhibit high data redundancy and are excellent candidates for deduplication and compression, hence the tool's default of 4:1. Conversely, file-based workloads often contain a mix of data types, including pre-compressed files (e.g., images, videos), which offer less potential for reduction. Therefore, the sizing tool applies a more conservative default of 2:1 for file workloads. These values serve as a starting baseline for sizing calculations.
