Simple discontinuation is a material requirements planning (MRP) function used to manage the phasing out of a component. During an MRP run, the system checks the discontinuation parameters in the material master. If the discontinuation date is in the past and the available stock of the component is zero, MRP will not generate any new procurement proposals for this component. Instead, it will transfer the dependent requirements to the designated follow-up material. This ensures a smooth transition from the old component to the new one without interrupting production.

A. Back flushing: This is a goods issue process that occurs during production order confirmation. The decision of which component to use has already been made during the planning phase (MRP).

B. Kanban: Kanban is a replenishment strategy. While it triggers procurement, the core logic for switching from a discontinued part to a follow-up part is evaluated during the MRP run, not within the Kanban process itself.

D. Production order release: This is an execution step. The components for the order are determined when the planned order is created by MRP and converted. The release process does not re-evaluate discontinuation logic.
