Artificial Intelligence (AI) is the discipline's overarching category. Machine Learning (ML) sits within AI as it refers to systems that learn from data rather than being explicitly programmed. Deep Learning (DL) is a subset of ML that utilizes multi-layered artificial neural networks to solve complex problems. Finally, Generative AI (Gen AI) is a specialized subset of Deep Learning (and effectively ML and AI) that uses these deep neural network models to create novel content, distinguishing it from discriminative models that simply classify data.
