Load balancing algorithms are used to distribute sessions across session hosts within a Pooled host pool, where resources are shared. (A "Personal" host pool assigns a user to a specific dedicated VM, so load balancing algorithms do not apply in the same way).

To meet the performance requirement, the Breadth-first algorithm is the correct choice. This algorithm distributes new user sessions across all available session hosts (similar to a round-robin). This prevents any single host from becoming saturated, spreads the load evenly, and provides the best performance for users. In contrast, the Depth-first algorithm is used to optimize for cost by saturating one host completely before moving to the next.
